23 things I’ve learnt in 23 years

So, since it’s my birthdaaaay tomorrow, I thought I’d compile a list of 23 most important things I’ve learnt in life so far. In the 23 years I’ve been living on this Earth.

  1. Appreciate the small things in life: A smile from a stranger, an extra half an hour in bed, coffee, your health, hugs, long conversations. These are some of the things many people take for granted, including me. So, the next time you have a bad day sit down and appreciate the little things in life.
  2. It’s okay to outgrow people: Realising that some people don’t have a place in your life anymore is okay. I thought I’d be friends with certain friends forever, but eventually you grow apart. Those group chats slowly die, everyone makes new friends and things won’t be the same anymore. To outgrow people is completely okay.
  3. Make memories: Take photos, keep a journal, start scrapbooking, make an album take videos and make those memories.
  4. Social media: People do not live the life their social media pictures show.
  5. True friendships are hard to come by: Friendship is a two-way street. Friendship is tested when your life is falling apart, and you find out who was there for you and who never was. I guess you don’t need a lot of friends or people for that matter in your life, just the few awesome humans who will go out of their way to help you like you will for them.
  6. It’s okay to quit: It’s okay to quit jobs you don’t like, quit university courses, quit anything in life that doesn’t make you happy. If something isn’t benefiting you towards your short or long-term goals, then it sure isn’t worth your time.
  7. Mental Health: Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
  8. The only thing certain in life is death: You’re going to lose people in your life and you’re going to realise that no matter how much time you spent with them or how much you appreciate them and told them, it will never seem like it was enough.
  9. Health is a crown the healthy wear. But only the sick can see it: Your health is the most important thing in life. Takes time to realise that.
  10. Worrying gets you nowhere: Some things are within our control and some things are not. Worrying will definitely not change the outcome of the situation.
  11. Don’t Brag: You don’t need to tell everyone you meet where you are in life or what you have accomplished. You don’t need to post every accomplishment, every happiness on social media, people don’t care. Do things for you and not for the validation of others.
  12. Coffee is a necessity: That first sip of coffee every morning literally shoots through my body and gives me life.
  13. Take yourself on your own adventure: You don’t need to have someone with you to have a good time and it’s okay to enjoy being by yourself. It’s not lonely or weird, it will teach you a lot of things about yourself.
  14. Stop saying sorry for everything: If you did something wrong, yes say sorry. If you hurt someone in any way, yes say sorry. But, stop saying sorry for the sake of apologising.
  15. Mindset is everything: We all have two choices in life, to think positively or negatively. That choice is entirely up to you.
  16. Going out of your comfort zone helps you grow as a person: Yes, great things are waiting on the other side. Your fear might hold you back from the best thing you could ever have.
  17. Failure is good: Don’t fear failure, embrace it. There are many lessons that failure can teach us including, experience, knowledge, resilience, and growth.
  18. Read books: Reading keeps your mind open to possibilities and it also keeps your imagination fresh with ideas. The more you read the better you write and never stop learning.
  19. Always back up your USB: Just trust me on this one.
  20. Expect the unexpected: Because nothing in life ever goes to plan.
  21. You will never really be ready: So, stop waiting.
  22. Always stand up for what you believe in: I can finally say that I am no longer afraid to speak up for what I believe in. I know this can be difficult, hard, and uncomfortable in certain situations. But, this is so important if you don’t want to be walked all over. Believe me I learnt the hard way.
  23. Some life advice from Dumbledore: “Tell me one last thing,’ said Harry. ‘Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?’ Dumbledore beamed at him, and his voice sounded loud and strong in Harry’s ears even though the bright mist was descending again, obscuring his figure. ‘Of course, it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean it is not real?’”

Just a little thank you to all my subscribers and readers. I appreciate all the love and support. I’m excited to see what this year throws at me.
